The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37, 000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4, 600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.

Our Adoption Process:

Please note that in many of our provincial shelters renters are required to bring in copies of their strata council by-laws in order to be approved for adopting.

Please contact us at the shelter for any adoption requirements before visiting us to adopt so that you are correctly prepared to take your new family member home.

I have mixed feelings on breeding pets

by monki

Volumes have been written on the topic... one of my college professors even had a seminar called "the ethics of pet keeping."
so many breeders are unscrupulous about messing up the animals' gene pool, which is why so many dogs, like golden retrievers, have hip displasia and whatnot. the munchkin cats are cute, but part of me says, "what the fuck is THAT?" these are living creatures, and it's a little creepy that people sculpt them through breeding so that we will have an increasingly cuddly race of pets to play with.
especially when there are so many animals in shelters that have no homes and are routinely euthanized

Where can I buy a Munchkin kitten?

Okay, so I'm looking to buy a standard Munchkin kitten. I don't mind if it is a mixed breed, just as long as it is a standard Munchkin. ( short legged ) I live in Texas, so somewhere around here would be nice. But, I am planning on picking one up on my way to Missouri, so I don't mind if it is located in Oklahoma, or Missouri. But I would prefer Texas. Thank you. (:

Aw munchkins are so sweet!

Desperate Search for Scottish Fold Munchkin Kitten!!!?

I am searching for a Scottish Fold Munchkin kitten. I am absolutely in love with them. I recently lost my beloved cat, and am ready now to move ahead. I have always gone through rescues, but I am sure there will not be any of these available. Does anyone know of any reputable breeders? In Texas preferably? Thank you so much!

Where are you? If you are in Victoria, BC, contact the Cat's Cradle. If I knew you earlier, I would have given you mine.

Teacup cat breeders in houston,TX?

Hi I want a teacup/mini cat for the right reasons. We live in a small apartment and the landlord only accepts animals really small (no rodents) and there are no shelters near us,or munchkin breeders(north houston) so PLEASE GIVE ME A FULL TO MY QUESTION BECAUSE I DON'T WANT YOUR YOUR SUGGESTIONS, i WANT ANSWERS! GIVE ME THE NAME AND NUMBER AND WEBSITE,GEEZ! AND NO STUPID ANSWERS OR DUMB ONES OR HATE ONES!!! Thanks :)

I am sure you are quite capable of doing an internet search - do you want people to do that for you? And yes, there are lots of shelters in Houston. I guess you can't look that up, either.

And unlike Munchkins (and Napoleons, too!) teacups are not legitimate breeds. They are 'produced' by back yard breeders, and are created from breeding runt to runt - the end result being sickly kittens with genetic issues. And the problem with this breeding is that you have no idea what the ultimate size of the adult cat is going to be. The intent is a small cat - but since this isn't…
